Maya Herstein

Maya Herstein

for Menlo Park City School District

I'm a current MPCSD parent and a longtime Menlo Park resident. My eldest recently graduated from Hillview and my youngest is enrolled at Oak Knoll. I am deeply committed to the long-term success of our schools and the community they serve.

Public education has shaped my own life, and I strongly believe in the role public schools play in strengthening communities. For years, I have been actively involved in MPCSD: serving on the district's Local Control and Accountability Plan committee, co-chairing Hillview's service team, volunteering in classrooms at Oak Knoll, supporting the PTO, and co-leading a nonprofit that helps parents raising children in our community.

I hold a law degree and an MBA, and I bring a practical, thoughtful, hands-on approach to service, one built on listening, asking the right questions, and working collaboratively toward solutions.

Our board needs a parent who brings firsthand experience of families currently in the district.

Why I'm Running

I am running to bring a current-parent perspective to the Board. I believe the district is stronger, and community trust is deeper, when the Board includes voices who are experiencing MPCSD today and understand how decisions affect students, families, and teachers in real time.

Elementary and middle school are foundational years, and students need strong academic standards with targeted support, safe and welcoming schools, and teachers and staff who have the resources they need to help every child grow. My focus will be on listening, asking thoughtful questions, managing resources responsibly, and making decisions that support students, teachers, families, and the broader community.

My Vision for MPCSD

A district where every child is challenged, supported, and set up to thrive

Campuses that keep kids safe, physically and emotionally

Teachers who stay and thrive, because they're valued and heard

A budget process every family can actually understand and trust

My Priorities

1

Strong Academic Foundations with Targeted Support

Every child deserves to reach their full potential
  • Strong instruction in reading, writing, math, and critical thinking
  • Targeted support for students who need extra help
  • Honest, transparent reporting on student progress
2

Safe, Supportive Schools Where Students Can Thrive

Students learn best when they feel safe, respected, and known
  • Safe, secure campuses for every student
  • Clear communication with families
  • Real support for emotional well-being
3

Supporting Teachers and Staff

Teachers and staff are at the heart of our schools
  • Resources and professional support
  • Respect and clear communication
  • Leadership that listens to educators
4

Responsible Budgeting and Transparent Decision-Making

Planning carefully for MPCSD's future
  • Responsible, long-term budgeting
  • Clear communication on financial decisions
  • Decisions families can understand and trust

The best conversations happen in person, so feel free to come say hello or drop me an email. I want to hear from parents like you: what's working, what's not, and what matters most for your kids.

I would love to get your support, whether that's an hour of your time, a coffee, or a yard sign.
